Some chicks love bread. I love soap.

Taylor Swift recently stated that she thinks about bread 60% of the time. I understand the obsession but mine is homemade soap. It started with my niece, Jessica Steinert, who wanted to start a side hustle and suggested we experiment with soap making. Of course, I was in! It would be her side gig and I would handle "research and development."

Our first attempt at soap was pretty disastrous. The oil wouldn't emulsify and the batter wouldn't come to trace, despite 30 minutes of blending. If you aren't familiar with soap-making, that's a bad batch. We weren't sure what the heck went wrong so I gathered all the bowls, blender, ingredients, lye and devoted myself to extensive YouTube study. After viewing at least fifty videos from experienced soap makers and a few more "questionable" batches, I got it down! Now, I can't stop making soap, ya'll.

I toyed with the notion of starting an Etsy shop to sell the bars but decided it would be too much of a real job. So now, I make soap for people close to me and do an annual delivery where my friends throw money into a jar and take as much soap as they want. The money has benefited my favorite charity, K9s for Camo and the holiday recipient of my Seraphine Sisterhood group. Homemade goat milk soap is a luxury in the shower. I'm pretty sure, Bill and I will never run out.
